A man was killed in a shooting in Seminole County over the weekend after he lost his cousin in another shooting just months ago in Oklahoma City, his family said.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy for the fatal shooting outside the E-Z Mart on South Mekusukey Avenue in Wewoka, which happened around 12 a.m. Sunday, said Criminal Investigator Kevin Ortman with the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department. Because the suspect is a juvenile, police did not release his name.

Ortman said the investigation is ongoing and officers are working to determine a motive. The man killed in the shooting was a 21-year-old member of the Seminole Nation, Ortman said. Family identified him as Quantae Smith.

"I don't want to accept it. He was loved by everybody," said Quantae Smith's mother, Crystal Smith.

Quantae Smith's family said there was an altercation leading up to the shooting, "It happened all so fast. They went out and... they started fist-fighting. And after they started fighting, they took off," said Darla Smith, the aunt of the victim.

Quantae Smith's older brother, Qualan Huntley, said he was there with Smith when Smith was shot, "We took off running. He fell. He was in my arms and everything. He said, 'I got shot, I got shot. Don't let me die,'" Huntley recalled.

Quantae Smith's aunt said she rushed Smith to the hospital, but he died along the way. "I never in a million years ever think that I would ever get a phone call saying that my baby is gone," Crystal Smith said.

Quantae Smith was shot twice, his family said. He is survived by his twin 3-year-old sons.

"There's not anything in this world that can make you hate somebody so much to where you have to shoot them and kill them," said Crystal Smith.

There were no reports of other injuries, said Ortman. Quantae Smith had already lost his cousin, Joedy Huntley, who was killed in a shooting at a motel in Oklahoma City on June 1, said his family.

"The family is just now easing off of so much pain from Joedy, and now this and everything," said Crystal Smith.
