Oklahoma City, County, State and Federal agencies are working to solve the murder of a Pottawatomie County mother.
Makayla Meave-Byers disappeared in September, and Wednesday will mark two weeks since the body of Makayla Meave Byers was found concealed in a ditch. Investigators said they’re now scrutinizing a mountain of evidence.
“We pushed out as many as 20 search warrants as we stand right now,” said Captain Marcus May with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
With the mother's death plaguing investigators with mounting questions, they said they’re not letting up.
“We have several more pending and being drafted. We're working day in and day out,” said May.
Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Captain Marcus May said the majority of their warrants encompass examining cell phone and social media data.
“It takes time to analyze the records and make sense of them,” said May.
With no arrests made, May said the public chatter was deafening. “We are listening and looking into everything that’s reported to us,” said May. And while investigators are listening, they’re not ready to act.
“If we could arrest people on gut feelings there would be a lot of people going to jail, but not a whole lot of people going to prison,” said May.
May said they're laser focused on hard evidence, “We want to do justice for the family, we want to do justice for Makayla, so we want to do it correct." Investigators said they haven’t cleared anyone as a possible suspect.
“No one has been ruled out definitively,” said May.
Investigators also said they have yet to determine if Makayla's killer acted alone.
“It's very, very possible this is more than one person. Because you have two crime scenes, you have the last time she was seen, and where she was recovered,” said May.
