What Happened?
Police were called to Integris Southwest Medical Center just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday when three people showed up with gunshot wounds. Police said the victims were driven to the hospital in separate cars. Officers learned through the investigation that four teenagers first met up at Coolidge Elementary near Southwest 53rd Street and Villa Avenue.
"During the initial meetup, a disturbance occurred that resulted in gunfire," said Lt. Dustin Motley with the Oklahoma City Police Department. "We don't know the specific details of the meetup. The investigation is in the early stages."
What We Know About the Victims and Suspect
Police arrested a 17-year-old on Tuesday for second-degree murder in connection to the deadly shootings. Investigators have identified the two victims who died as 17-year-old Raymundo Fernandez and 18-year-old Oscar Herrera. The third victim's name has not been released and his condition was unknown.
Oklahoma City Public School Officials Respond
In a statement, Oklahoma City Public Schools said:
“Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is cooperating with the Oklahoma City Police Department as they continue to investigate the shooting incident that occurred on the evening of February 11 on the campus of Coolidge Elementary School. The safety and security of our students and staff is the top priority for OKCPS. Local officials have confirmed this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the students and staff at Coolidge Elementary. This event occurred in the evening and no Coolidge students were in danger. Inquiries related to this incident should be directed to the OCPD.”
District officials have not confirmed if the victims and suspect were students in the district.
