Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason is leading his agency through recent incidents of deputies being shot.
In August, Deputy Jordan Pyle was shot and killed in a domestic homicide. And on Wednesday, Deputy Sean Steadman was shot while working on the District 21 Violent Crime Joint Task Force in Garvin County.
Steadman was shot in the face, but is expected to fully recover.
"I've been doing this 30 years," Amason said. "And obviously I've been involved with shootings and officers, but never someone so close or under my command like this. Being the leader during times like this, it's something that you just can't prepare for. But, I am going to be strong for my people. We're going to come out of this stronger than we were."
Several agencies are involved in the search for Kameron Jenkins, who is accused of shooting Steadman.
Amason said despite the emotions, his deputies understand there's still a job to do.
"They're all chomping at the bit," he said. "They want to find this guy. And we will find him. I guarantee you we will find him."
OSBI is leading the investigation into the shooting itself. As of Wednesday night, Jenkins had not yet been located.
"It is in his best interest to give up and give up peacefully," Amason said. "If he chooses not to, it's not going to end so well for him this time. So, I urge him, wherever he's at, to give up and give up peacefully because if he's not, he's going to pay for it."
