Deer mating season is here, and AAA says that means a higher risk of hitting a deer while on the road. One metro area body shop has already seen an increase in cars come in due to deer damage.
Gerber collision in Oklahoma city say they are seeing two to three cars a week due to damage from deer wrecks. These are costly repairs and many times can be deadly.
Deer mating season goes all the way through December in Oklahoma. According to AAA, deer are most active during this season and are likely to run in the middle of the road during the morning and evening hours. Matt James, service rider at Gerber collisions says damage from deer wrecks can cost from $500 to a total loss. James says most of the time drivers drivers will see the deer but won't have time to stop.
AAA recommendations:
Use high beams at night when their is no oncoming traffic.
If you spot a deer near your car, honk your horn. Many times the sound will frighten the deer.
Stay attentive on the road, especially at night and during the early morning hours.
