A new court document reveals what led up to the Oct. 13 ambush shooting of an Oklahoma City police officer.
Bullets entered the officer's vehicle, but only shrapnel struck the officer in his arm.
"We're very fortunate, very thankful, that no one was seriously injured in this," MSgt. Gary Knight told News 9.
Police arrested 39-year-old Michael Wilson the next day for the shooting. The arrest affidavit for Wilson said he planned to "pop a cop" in retaliation for his cousin, who he claimed police in Cleveland County shot. The affidavit did not name his cousin.
The affidavit also said Wilson went to a gas station earlier that day with a friend and stood in line behind a police officer. According to the document, the friend had to convince Wilson not to shoot the officer standing in front of them.
A group of juveniles said an adult man later approached them and bragged about having spent time with Wilson earlier that day, including the details of being motivated to shoot a police officer and possessing a gun.
Surveillance video from a nearby neighbor also captured Wilson right before the shooting.
Wilson remains in Oklahoma County jail.
