A former Oklahoma County resident is accused of downloading hundreds of images of child pornography while living in Edmond.
Last week investigators from the Edmond Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sonny Kopp in Delaware County-- where he currently resides. Edmond police began investigating Kopp after they received a tip from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
While living in a mobile home park near South Bryant Avenue and East 9th Street, investigators claim Sonny Kopp, a man who claims to be an aspiring rapper, uploaded disturbing videos depicting young girls being violated to his Google account. “We received a tip from the cyber tip portion for The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children,” said Edmond Police Department Spokeswoman, Emily Ward.
Edmond Police learned Kopp had moved in with his mother, nearly 200 miles away. “We began our investigation that ultimately led us to Delaware County,” said Ward. Kopp was confronted by a team of investigators who examined his electronics examined. “We found substantial evidence of pornographic materials on his Xbox, cellular phone, and desktop computer,” said Ward.
Despite investigators uncovering multiple explicit videos on Kopp's devices, police said Kopp initially denied responsibility. “He attempted to claim somebody had been using his phone and possibly put the videos on there,” said Ward.
But according to a police report--when pressed further Kopp stated "...it was me.” And went on to say "he was a meth user and he would often times download child pornography while he was using. "
“It’s a very significant step in the fight to protect children and to get these people off the streets,” said Ward.
Kopp is a felon, he’s currently jailed in Delaware County
