Everyone knows how special it is to have a front-row seat.
Equipped with their binoculars and spotter boards, that seat has given Dave Hunziker and Toby Rowland a bird's eye view of some of the biggest plays in their program's histories.
“The rush that goes with that and the challenge of being on the air for five to six hours without a script,” said Dave Hunzinger.
Hunziker has been broadcasting from high in the sky for Oklahoma State football since 2001.
That year included a bedlam game for the ages. “I didn’t realize just how good it was,” Hunziker said.
Many point to those back-to-back wins as a pivotal point for the Cowboys. “What I think Oklahoma fans realized 21 years ago was suddenly even when the Sooners were good Oklahoma State was good enough to beat them,” said Hunziker.
Hunzeiker's last call during Bedlam in Boone Pickens is one he'll never forget. “Just like so many Cowboys and Sooners, Bedlam got the best of me,” said Hunziker.
Although Hunziker is a proud Missouri tiger. His world is centered around America's brightest orange.
As for the voice of OU—that Oklahoma connection came at birth. “I just remember thinking I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Toby Rowland.
Rowland's first Bedlam experience included a short drive from his hometown of Mustang to Norman. Where OU took care of business. ‘It was larger than life, the ponies the marching band the number of people,” Rowland said.
All these years later, Rowland broadcasts those big moments in the booth, creating plenty of memories along the way.
And while these programs are headed for new eras, there's still one more bedlam call for both of these voices.
And this Saturday, they'll be ready.
