Glenpool Police Investigating After String Of Car Burglaries

Glenpool Police are investigating after more than 30 cars were broken into in one day.

Officers are asking people with video that shows the crimes to turn it over to them.

Chief Jeremy Plane with Glenpool Police says even though car burglaries typically spike around the holidays, he hasn’t seen this many at one time before.

Glenpool Police believe three people are responsible for stealing a car and using it to drive around and break into 33 other cars in Glenpool.

Plane says these burglaries were somewhat unusual.

“Statistically, people will go around and check door handles of unlocked cars and just kind of take things that are laying in there, loose change, electronics, charging cables, things of that nature,” said Plane. “It's a little bit different this time that they went as far as breaking windows out to gain entry. That's not the norm."

Plane says the best way to keep this from happening is to make sure you lock your car doors and don’t keep anything of value inside the car.

"Make sure you don't keep your valuables in your car,” said Plane. “Don't leave things laying around in plain view where they can see them; don't leave your cars unlocked. There have been at least two firearms taken of the 33 cars broken into. Don't leave firearms."

Police believe at least one of the burglars could have been carrying a gun.

If you hear or see something suspicious, call police.

"If they hear glass breaking, don't be tempted to go outside and see what's going on,” said Plane. “Just call and let us do it. We're open 24/7, we always have officers on, let us come and see what's going on."

Police say it’s also a good idea to leave porch lights on, close garage doors, and get doorbell security systems to keep yourself from becoming an easy target for burglars.

"That's just giving somebody another avenue of taking something without having to work for it,” said Plane. “If they can do it easily, those are the ones that they're going to probably hit first."
