The City of Tulsa has a way for the public to shop for new or lightly used products from a swap shop, and it's all free!

The city's "swap shop" has items like household cleaners, fertilizers, spray paint, windshield washer fluid and more. It's all available for residents to use at no cost.

All of the items are collected at the Household Pollutant Collection Facility near West 45th Street and Elwood.

The collection facility was opened in 2016 for Tulsa residents to dispose of household pollutants for free.

Scott Vanloo is the operations manager at the Public Works Department. He said a lot of the products they received had never been opened.

So instead of spending extra money to dispose of it, residents can now come "shop" and take home items for free.

“We’d like to eventually see a reduction in a need for something like this facility. Because we would really like to see people not purchase more than what they need, use everything they purchase in the manner that was actually manufactured. That’s really the true means of the true definition of recycling," Vanloo said.

The swap shop is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you want to drop off items, Vanloo said they can only take materials from households.
