After a 2-4 start to Summit League play, the ORU Golden Eagles have rattled off two straight conference wins to put themselves back into the regular season conference title chase. ORU is now 4-4 in the Summit League, and is 1 of 4 teams just a game behind conference leader South Dakota State.
One of the other 4 teams in that tie for third in the Summit is Denver. That Pioneer team will visit the Mabee Center on Saturday night in a crucial game in the conference standings. Tipoff for the game is 7 pm. The Golden Eagles are 13-10 all-time against the Pios, and have won seven-straight. DU hasn't won at the Mabee Center in five years.
While the Golden Eagles are trending upwards, the Pioneers are headed in the other direction. The Pioneers head into Saturday night on a two-game losing streak, including a 14-point loss at Kansas City their last time out. But Denver is lead by one of the biggest scoring threats in the country, Tommy Bruner, who leads the nation in scoring at 25.5 ppg.
Not only is Saturday night a crucial game in the conference title hunt, it's also Hall of Fame night. At halftime, Oral Roberts Athletics will honor all hall of famers and the 2024 inductees: Gentry Detter (women's soccer), Matt Whatley (baseball) and the 1981 Men's Golf Team.
ORU head coach Russell Springmann met with the media on Thursday to preview Saturday's game, ORU's homecourt advantage at the Mabee Center, and the challenge down the stretch of the regular season.
