Author and the son of astronaut Bruce McCandless II visited the Tulsa Air and Space Museum to talk about his fathers' incredible story on Friday.
McCandless conducted the first ever untethered spaceflight back in 1984.
The picture of his spacewalk is among the most memorable shots from outer space.
McCandless's son, also named Bruce, says he felt compelled to tell his dad's story. The book is titled 'Wonders All Around".
"A lot of people have seen his image as a result of those famous photographs from 40 years ago and my aim was to introduce people to the person behind those photographs," he said.
McCandless said his dad initially planned to write a memoir and started it but never finished before he died.
You still have a chance to meet him. He'll be back at the museum on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.
