Oklahoma City Police say they arrested the man who they believe killed his 4-month-old son.
On March 5, police say 34-year-old Duwuan Betancourt was at home with his baby.
According to an arrest affidavit, Betancourt says he placed his baby in a swing for a nap at 12:30 p.m.
Hours later, Betancourt admits to police he forgot to check on the 4-month-old until 3:45 p.m. Betancourt found the baby cold and not breathing.
Records say Betancourt texted his wife at 4:18 p.m., only texting her name. He called the police five minutes later. "This is a very young child taken to the hospital and sadly pronounced dead there," said Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
According to the court document at the ER, Betancourt said, "It's all my fault."
"Officers learned that that child suffered from injuries consistent with child abuse," Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Records show Betancourt spoke to police about why the baby might have had skull fractures saying the baby rolled off the couch onto a soft foam mat a few days prior the baby would also sit on the mat and fall backward.
However, the baby's autopsy does not agree with those claims. The medical examiner says the baby experienced "blunt force trauma."
A doctor tells police the baby's injuries consist of "slamming on a hard surface," adding "The baby would have died within five minutes of sustaining injuries such as these."
An obituary posted says the baby's name was Quinn Betancourt. Born in October, his funeral was in March.
Betancourt sits in jail on a $5 million bond.
