Former Moore Mayor Glenn Lewis has died.

MOORE, Okla. -

Glenn Lewis, the former mayor of Moore who led the city for three decades, has died, the city announced on Sunday.

The City of Moore said Lewis held a "deep love" for the city, and had recently honored him with a key to the city.

"On behalf of the Moore City Council and Staff, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lewis family during this difficult time," the city said in a post on social media.

During Lewis's tenure, he led the city through recovery following the May 3, 1999 tornado as well as the May 20, 2013 tornado, and was a key figure in the city's development during the last 30 years.
