Classes in Marietta have been canceled after a tornado struck the town Saturday night, the district said.

In a post on social media, Marietta Public Schools said although their campuses did not sustain serious damage, the potential for power outages has led district leaders to cancel Monday's classes.

However, the district said a volunteer command post has been set up at the Marietta School cafeteria, and any donations of money, food or other non-perishables can be dropped off on the north side of the cafeteria in the bus loop.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our community partners, Marietta family and emergency responders who have been affected," the district said.
