For the first time in program history, Southern Nazarene’s softball team will play in the NCAA Division 2 regionals. This is after an impressive win in the Greater American Conference over the weekend.
“Oklahoma is a big place for softball, and it’s always the real deal,” Emma Swearingen, who plays first base, said.
Swearingen is an Oklahoma native and is proud of her team for winning their first ever Greater American Conference tournament title.
“It was like magic,” Hailey Evans, who plays third base, said. “Fireworks were going off and everyone was screaming.”
Head Coach Brian Madden has been with the team for five seasons.
“That’s why I fell in love with this sport. It’s so fast paced, the girls have so much passion,” Madden said.
Ahead of game one against number two seed Rogers state, Coach Madden tells his team just to play ball.
“Do exactly what we’ve been doing this past season. Have fun,” Madden said. “It’s the same game, it's the same field. All we have to do is play our game.”
And the girls all agree they're looking for a win this weekend.
SNU and Rogers state play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. If they win this tournament, they’ll head to Florida for the national title.
