Severe weather swept through the state Sunday night, and several properties were destroyed, including a family's home near Union City.

The Martinez family says they installed a storm shelter recently, not realizing how crucial it would be to them three weeks later.

Their home was destroyed in the storm, but no one was injured.

Rene Martinez said while they were taking shelter, his family heard what sounded like an explosion, and he knew that his home was going to be damaged.

His family is remaining positive in the situation and said they are relying on their faith as they pick up the pieces of what was once their dream home.

"I know that we lost our home, but I know that God's got a better plan for us," Martinez said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help as they rebuild what was lost in the storm, CLICK HERE for more information.

They said they welcome anyone willing to help and are in need of a large dumpster.
