Oklahoma City Council Approves Arena Development Plan In 7-2 Vote

The Oklahoma City Council voted to approve a plan for a new billion-dollar downtown arena that is supposed to be completed in 2028.

The Oklahoma City Council voted to approve the official location of the new billion-dollar arena, which will be the future home of the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a meeting where they will discuss multiple issues Tuesday.

The city revealed plans to build an arena on the site of the former Cox Convention Center, which is currently occupied by Prairie Surf Studios.

The city council approved the plans on Tuesday in a 7-2 vote, the target completion date for the arena is June 2028.

According to a press release, OKC agrees to spend a minimum of $900 million on the new arena funded by $78 million from MAPS 4, $50 million from PBCS&E, and a minimum of $772 million, financed through the 72-month, one-cent special sales tax.

There is no set date for the demolition of the current building or for the start of construction.
