Hundreds of artists and vendors are setting up shop Thursday for Braum’s An Affair of the Heart, which is happening over the weekend at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.
Two original creators of the event, Anita Hinkle and Susie Crews, stopped by the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to talk about the origins of the arts, crafts, and boutiques show and what to expect for the summer show.
The two said the idea came from eight women with separate businesses who all wanted a way to make money doing something they loved.
Thirty-nine years ago, the concept of An Affair of the Heart was born. It started with 63 vendors and less than 1,000 people in attendance.
They said it has grown with the hard work of small business owners, young retailers, and people who want to support them.
Now, tens of thousands of people visit the show every year, and they say it is like coming to a party with your best friends.
The show is at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are on sale for $10.
