Oklahoma County commissioners have decided to purchase the controversial property on East Grand Boulevard in a meeting on Monday.

The commission originally planned to construct a new county jail and a mental health facility on the property, but these plans were thwarted when City Councilors denied zoning in May.

On Monday, the board voted to purchase the property for just under $5 million.

Commissioners are now looking into whether they need the city's approval or not.

Whether the board goes forward with building the jail there is yet to be seen.

They say they want to get this built with $50 million in federal COVID funding on the line.
