The race for Oklahoma City's District 99 House seat is being fought at the ballot box and in the courtroom.
Rep. Ajay Pittman (D- Okla. District 99) is suing her opponent Brittane Grant.
Pittman is arguing her opponent, Grant, is not eligible to serve in the state House because of a prior felony charge.
The lawsuit claims Grant pleaded guilty to felony charges in 2016, and can't run because an Oklahoma state statute says “a person who has entered a plea of guilty” is “not eligible to be a candidate” “for fifteen years.”
Grant’s charges no longer show up on the Oklahoma State Court Records website, but her charges can still be found on the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website.
Attorneys tell News 9 that Grant's charges were likely expunged.
Pittman separately admitted to spending campaign funds for personal use.
She paid that back along with a fine to the Oklahoma Ethics Commission, totaling $35,000.
