An Oklahoma lawmaker was targeted in a phone call scam.
The Attorney General's office calls it another version of a "government imposter scam."
The local branch of the U.S. district court is warning people about this, saying scammers are posing as law enforcement or court personnel and intimidating victims.
They say it can be a frightening call to receive.
“I received a phone call Friday afternoon from a gentleman who identified himself as Barry Davis, and said he was with the U.S. Marshal's Office,” said Rep. Cyndi Munson (D-D35).
“When I called back he basically told me that I had missed federal jury duty," Munson said. "He said I was going to have three warrants out for my arrest.”
That phone call sent Munson into a panic.
Two hours on the phone with a so-called law enforcement officer, who knew Munson's full name, date of birth, and address.
They were even calling from an OKC area code.
"When I was on the line with them they told me to open my Google Chrome app and google the phone number they were calling from and it was linked to the federal courthouse here in Oklahoma City,” Munson said.
Caught up in the chaos of the cal, it took Munson a few hours last week to realize it was all a scam after the caller finally asked for money.
Munson says hindsight is 20/20. But with a phone call that sounds so real, the last thing she was thinking was a scam.
