The Lawton Correctional Center is at risk of closing unless an agreement can be reached with the State of Oklahoma, the prison's owners say.

GEO Group, who operates the facility, says it won't be renewing its contract unless the state comes up with more funding.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections calls the terms excessive, and says the Lawton facility is not up to the state's standard.

In a statement, the department said it has already found several alternative locations and has plans to meet with the Board of Corrections next week to finalize those plans.

The agreement is set to expire on Sunday, June 30.
