Thousands of homeowners throughout Oklahoma woke up to the same experience on Wednesday; unable to turn the lights on and without any air conditioning.
Justin Dockery moved to Midwest City from California a month ago. Tuesday night's storm were his first brush with Oklahoma weather.
"A little scary last night, but we made it through the night, and I know what to expect for the next run," Dockery said.
Dockery spent his morning cutting trees that fell overnight, all without the respite of a cool house to step into.
Sharon Vaughn in northeast Oklahoma City had no damage, but spent all of Wednesday inside a house that peaked at 92 degrees.
"I closed all the curtains again," Vaughn said. "I was trying to get breeze in [..] and of all days, not to have wind; there's no breeze."
Dockery and Vaughn had their power restored Wednesday evening. Both were not able to make it to a cool zone during the day because of their pets.
A list of cool zones can be found here.
