Music is the universal language that has an unexplainable effect on pretty much everyone, no matter how young or old.
Solis and Luna Arts is an organization with chapters all over the world with one common goal.
“It's sort of like providing music for those who normally won’t be able to get up and go to a concert hall,” said Chapter Organizer Jason Samuels.
They are a group of high school students from different schools and backgrounds coming together to share their love of music.
“Well, I just kind of asked my friends, do you want to come play for people who are in nursing homes or people who are in a situation and unable to got to a concert hall, and they were like sure,” said Samuels.
“I was on board immediately, no hesitation,” said musician Dylan Hoang. “Music has always been a passion for me, and it has helped me a lot and I enjoy listening to music, so I just want to help others, get to experience what I get to experience with music,”
Since these are busy high school students there isn’t much time set aside to practice, but these kids are pretty much professionals.
“We all come and warm up for about thirty minutes or so and then we perform,” said Samuels.
Though the audience is typically of few words, their actions show appreciation.
“They were singing along and tapping their feet,” said Katie Dickey, with Legacy Senior Living.
“Music is a great way to get into the soul of those who can’t communicate effectively because of a disability or chronic illness such as dementia,” said Dickey.
It's a great time for the audience and equally enjoyable for the students. “I hope this can continue on and just brighten people’s days honestly,” said Samuels.
The group will take a break for the summer but will resume appearances in the fall. To contact them email samuelsjason236@gmail.com
