Edmond Senior Living Center Hosts Parade With Residents

On Wednesday morning the streets of the Villagio Senior Living, an assisted living center in Edmond will come to life as residents and friends parade around the 25-acre property.

“The community started in the nineteen fifties, so we’ve been around here and a lot of people in Edmond know us,” said Villagio Director of Life, Caitlin Cairns.

One of their biggest events for the residents is the Fourth of July parade.

“It started as just a fun way to create that sense of community and fun,” said Cairns.

“In preparation for the big parade, residents decorate their golf carts and scooters in USA, red, white and blue,” said Cairns. 

“It’s fun to see how creative the residents get with everything; they’ve had some really creative ideas and decorations before,” said Cairns.

For many of the residents, it is a reminder of home.

“I think a lot of us grew up in small towns or remember going to the hometown parade,” said Cairns.

The Edmond Fire and police departments as well as others will take part in the fun and the excitement is not only building for the residents, but the staff is pretty involved as well

“We kind of have a competition going on between the independent living and assisted living staff,” said Cairns.

“A really fun place to be and it’s a really fun place to celebrate holidays together,” said Cairns.
