As part of a series of road work operations in the northeastern part of the Oklahoma City metro, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is warning drivers of delays in the area.

Work on southbound Interstate 35 at Interstate 44 began Tuesday night and is expected to reopen Wednesday morning.

Even further into the future, however, I-35 and I-44 are expected to be narrowed near Northeast 63rd Street through 2025 for a bridge reconstruction project.

While the project is underway, the following roadways will be closed or narrowed:

  1. The westbound I-44 on-ramp from northbound Lincoln Boulevard will be closed through August.
  2. The northbound I-35 off-ramp to Northeast 63rd Street will be closed through fall 2024.
  3. Northbound North Bryant Avenue will be narrowed to a single lane between Northeast 50th Street and Aluma Valley Drive through the fall of 2024.
  4. Northeast 63rd Street will be closed between North Bryant Avenue and North Martin Luther King Avenue.
  5. North and southbound I-35 will be narrowed to two lanes in each direction between Northeast 50th St. and Wilshire Boulevard
  6. Westbound I-44 will be narrowed to a single lane from Wilshire Boulevard to North Martin Luther King Avenue.
  7. The southbound I-35 on-ramp from North Bryant Avenue will be permanently closed.

Motorists should expect congestion and delays in the area and are encouraged to plan extra travel time.
