Local Theatre Company Brings Classics To Life With A Modern Twist In OKC

Storyteller Theatre was started by the husband-and-wife team Justice and Brenna Wickstrom in 2019.

“What we do here is we put on multiple shows, especially throughout the Summer. Every other week we’ve got another show going on,” said Justice Wickstrom.

Enough shows to keep actors and actresses as busy as they want to be.

“For each show that we do, we have five individual performances per show that we do, I think this year it came out to around eight different shows,” said Wickstrom.

The shows are focused on the theatre classics with a twist.

“Trying to find fun ways to tell those stories that aren’t dated, that doesn’t change the integrity,” said Wickstrom.

Performances are held all over the city, in high school auditoriums, museums, and even parks.

“The Civic Center, whatever it is, any of these places, we want to bring art to every community that we possibly can,” said Wickstrom.

Regardless of the location, for Wickstrom, it’s all about creating theatre opportunities here in Oklahoma. “I don’t think that you should be forced to give up your dreams, what you want to do, based on where you live,” said Wickstrom.

The actors and actresses are from all different backgrounds, and regardless of skill level or resume they all have a love for the stage

“I get to see daily how much joy this brings to people. How inspiring it is to a lot of people,” said Wickstrom.

Inspiring the performers and audiences as well. “I want to see artistically in the community a place where people feel welcome, where they feel comfortable,” said Wickstrom.

The theatre company plans to increase performances for next year, as well as expand the type of shows they present.

“I genuinely feel that this is my purpose,” said Wickstrom.
