In 2024, Oklahomans proved time and again that kindness and generosity are at the heart of this state.
From helping the homeless in freezing temperatures to selfless acts of charity, these inspiring stories showcase the compassion and spirit of the people who make Oklahoma special.
Here are just a few of the many ways Oklahomans have made a difference in their communities this year:
The year started extremely cold, too cold for those without homes, so the Arctic Angels stepped in, letting them know they were not alone. “We’re in a desperate situation when the temperatures get like this,” They provided hotel rooms for the homeless because lives were at risk. Even families stepped up to do their part. “God, I think placed it on my heart.”
We learned the value of real friendship from Chitra and Carly Rae. Carly donated a kidney, saving her friend’s life. Never a second thought, she’d do it again and again, “It’s all worth it to go across that hall and see my friend.”
Some Oklahoma companies replaced air conditioning units in need of repair, "Very appreciative for the help, “It was 94 degrees in here!"
Drace, the former homeless artist who now has his own place, gave me the surprise of my life with a picture of my face.
We met a dog groomer living on five acres of land, with a bond for wild animals that she fed by hand.
I got the chance to do something I never thought I’d do—Up close for a gorilla wellness check at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
We had a tennis star and a greeter at Crest.
Students at Metro Tech encourage their peers with chalk art to be their best.
A grandmother serves ice cream after school to kids. She knows them all by name and considers them her friends.
His Helping Hands Automotive repairs cars and more. But there’s always that one that comes in that we end up doing a lot more for.
A 10-year-old Duncan girl cutting yards for people she wanted to bless. “My parents asked if I would accept it, and I said yes.”
The stories go on and on of Oklahomans helping others as they should.
Making this state—and the people that live here—definitely something good.
