About a week after a road rage incident that injured two, a mother says it is thanks to her son-in-law that her family is still here.

It happened near I-240 and Eastern where police say a man pulled out a gun and shot into a car.

Jacee and Jacob Wilson, along with their one-year-old son, were dropping off a dog they found the night before to its owner.

"She was ecstatic to get the dog back. Jacee just thought 'What a great day." She started out with a good deed before work,” Shelley Slater, Jacee's mother said.

As the family driving back, they said they noticed a car driving erratically

“He was in an upset position already. He was flying down the road, already jumped in front of Jacee and Jacob, and started to break check them,” Slater said.

Oklahoma City police say a man in a dark green SUV pulled out a gun and shot into their car.

Slater was on the phone with Jacee when it happened.

“You hear some noises and a pop and some blood-curdling screams a mom never wants to hear,” Slater said.

The bullet hit Jacob first, shattering his jaw and his front row of teeth, then Jacee.

“Jacee had a bullet wound to the middle of her forehead and lodged in her cheek. That bullet actually came from the bullet that hit her husband,” Slater said.

They said it will be a long road to recovery, but the family says they will get through it.

"They’re blessed, and they both know it, and they are happy they have their children," Slater said.

The couple is out of the hospital but still recovering from their injuries.

She posted a message of hope on social media, saying she could not be scared of the suspect still on the run and has to count her blessings.

"I do not know who is watching over us, but I know it's just not one angel. We have a whole army," Slater said.

The man police say shot into the car has not yet been arrested.

The family is raising money for medical expenses with a GoFundMe.

There is also a meal train and t-shirts you can buy in support of ending gun violence.
