A routine shift at a restaurant in Hinton turned into much more very quickly after an employee happened to give birth while working.
The manager of the Subway in Hinton said she was covering her employee’s shift after she complained of feeling sick and took a break to visit the bathroom.
However, after hearing the employee scream out for help, Subway manager Daysha Pratt said she knew something unexpected was happening.
"In two seconds like the whole day shifted and changed," Pratt said. "It was just wild. The way she screamed my name, I knew something was wrong. It was a panicked scream."
After locating the source of the yelling, Pratt said she found her employee in the bathroom, but now, she was no longer alone.
"The baby was in the toilet, so I reached in and grabbed the baby," Pratt said.
Pratt said both she and her employee were entirely unaware the latter was pregnant, which made the birth even more surprising.
"We spend more time together than we spend with our husbands, and I had no clue," Pratt said. "I mean she gained a little bit of weight, but who am I to judge if you gain a little weight?"
Without any medical experience, Pratt was able to jump from managing the restaurant, to taking an active role in helping her coworker and friend, as well as her new baby.
"I didn't panic, I just knew what to do," Pratt said. "It felt unreal."
The 8-pound baby girl, her mother's fourth child, is now at home happy and healthy.
"I think it's a blessing from God," Pratt said. "You just can't explain things like that."
