Two Oklahoma college students are back in the U.S. after they suspect they were drugged while vacationing in Cancun.
“There's no other explanation for this. Two girls don’t just drop at the same time,” said college student Kaylie Pitzer.
After spending tens of thousands on medical care in Mexico, one of them was med-flighted to a Dallas hospital.
The two girls were with a group of friends who landed in Mexico on Thursday. On Thursday, the two girls and their boyfriends along with another couple landed in Mexico and snapped a pic at the beach. "We were excited,” said Pitzer.
Friday, things took an unexpected turn, so much so that they don't plan on leaving the country again.
Friday, they headed to their resort's pool, and had a few drinks, but can't remember much else after they were served waters.
“The last memory I have is just walking in the pool,” said Pitzer.
“My water was fizzing, we were at the pool bar and we were both knocked out,” said Hull.
They were wheeled to their rooms in wheelchairs. “We were out, couldn’t walk, couldn't talk, couldn’t do anything,” said Pitzer.
Waking up the following morning. “It hurt to open my eyes, I was very nauseous, I couldn’t move,” said Pitzer.
Kaylie learned Zara had been rushed to the hospital and appeared to be seizing.
“I started having convulsions in my stomach, so they called 911,” said Hull. “So glad to be back home,” said Pitzer.
After landing in a Dallas airport Monday, Kaylie Pitzer and her boyfriend made a beeline to a Texas hospital where she embraced her best friend Zara Hull.
"It's so scary because, there's times, I am like am I going to make it out of this?” said college student Zara Hull. "When I got to America, my mom had them check my body for any incisions to make sure I had all my organs,” said Pitzer.
From there her family says they were forced to shell out tens of thousands of dollars for unknown medical treatments and medical evacuation to the U.S.
“The evacuation number is about $60,000, at this point,” said Rilee Works, Zara Hull’s mother.
After a family friend footed a $28,000 for the medi-flight,
Zara and Kaylie are just grateful to be back but with a warning for others. "I am beyond blessed that everyone is reaching out," said Hull. “This could happen to anyone,” said Pitzer.
The girls say doctors told them they believe their drinks may have been spiked with synthetic fentanyl.
