Summer break is officially over as metro kids head back to the classroom. But for some families, there is still a huge demand for school supplies.
Like many Oklahoma companies, the employees at Paycom are stuffing backpacks for Oklahoma students.
“Exciting to give back to kids in a big way, and so they feel prepared to go back to school and set them up for success in school,” said Paycom employee, Tyra Jackson
After filling the 500 backpacks, Paycom employees brought them to the Boys and Girls Clubs, for some special kids and an extra special homecoming of sorts.
“So, this is a bit of a surprise today for our kids, they know something is going on here and they are very excited to find out what,” said Teena Belcik, president and CEO of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County.
For Jackson, the visit to the Boys and Girls Club was a full-circle moment for her.
“I went there all throughout my high school career, I worked there right out of high school as well and so it’s a great opportunity to be able to give back to the Boys and Girls Club,” said Jackson.
As the kids picked up their brand-new backpacks, Jackson knew exactly what they were feeling.
“I imagine that they’re going to be excited, I know when I was going through the club, and I was going to school fresh supplies were really fun,” said Jackson.
The meaningful special touch was the handwritten cards placed in each backpack.
“Just that ability to feel special, that someone thought of them and took the time to write a note just means the world to all of us,” said Belcik.
There are 16 locations throughout Oklahoma County. The Boys and Girls Club is always in need of volunteers. For volunteer information call their main number 405.521.9292 and ask for the volunteer coordinator, or visit their website www.bgcokc.org
