A Norman man is behind bars after being accused of plotting the murders of his ex-girlfriend and her mother.
Court filings indicated the alleged plan was in motion when officers made the arrest.
Reports show the man became enraged after his ex refused to drop a rape case against him.
They say the suspect described in detail how he would commit the murders.
“Kind of really laid out a plan for what he was going to do, he detailed he was angry,” said Norman Police spokesperson Sarah Schettler.
According to an affidavit, a witness said Matthew Austin discussed exactly how he intended to murder his ex-girlfriend who he claimed was "messing with his life."
In the court filing, a friend said Austin had already gone to Home Depot and purchased black gloves and a painter's mask.
“He had purchased several items that would help him fulfill these threats,” said Schettler.
Investigators said the witness told them, he tried to discourage Austin, warning him he would be caught. Austin insisted he had a fail-proof plan. Saying "he would just stab them so that they would not scream"
After Austin left the witness's home they called the police.
Minutes later police located Austin and confronted him near his ex-girlfriend's home.
Austin was in possession of a Home Depot shopping bag that contained a mask and gloves.
“I think he initially provided officers with an excuse like he was going to paint his room or something along those lines,” said Schettler.
Police are thankful for the person who sounded the alarm.
“In an instance like this, it could’ve prevented something terrible from happening,” said Schettler.
Court filings show in an unrelated case. Austin is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
