On Wednesday, Owasso Police pulled over a pickup truck at German Corner, near E 116th Street North and N Garnett Road, around 3 a.m.
When officers approached the vehicle, they found that Adam Gibbs didn’t have a license and had meth and fentanyl in plain view.
The officer called for backup, and when the second officer arrived, Gibbs locked his doors and refused to get out.
As he struggled to shift the truck into gear, the officers realized he was about to flee. One officer quickly threw Stop Sticks under the truck’s tires. Despite this, Gibbs sped off, deflating two of his tires in the process. The chase ended near E 106th Street North and Highway 169 when the truck’s tires were completely flat.
In a desperate attempt to avoid arrest, Gibbs swallowed the meth and fentanyl but still refused to exit the vehicle.
Police were forced to use pepper-ball rounds to get him out, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officers also found a large collection of tools inside the truck. While neither the tools nor the tractor that was being towed had been reported stolen at the time, police are checking with nearby agencies to see if any related thefts have been reported.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
