Masson Maddox, a senior at Rogers State University, refuses to let his disability get in the way of achieving his dreams.

He has been blind since birth, but he doesn't let any obstacle get in his way.

“There can be hard times, good times, stuff that really makes me want to yell,” Maddox said.

Maddox has a pale optic nerve. He advocates for himself as he navigates getting around the school.

“I see everything, but the nerve can't translate all the detail of what I am looking at to the brain,” Maddox said.

He's determined to not let his blindness hinder him from reaching his dreams.

“I was raised to not use my disability as a crutch, and I don't even like calling it a disability; it's just a hardship that I have to overcome, and whatever I want to do, the only person stopping me is me,” Maddox said.

After he graduates from Rogers State, Masson hopes to move to Tulsa to become a radio DJ.

“My radio name is Mad Dog Maddox and I hope one day everyone will hear me on the radio,” Maddox said.

Masson hopes his resilience will continue paying off.

“No matter what you are going through, the only one who really has a say in your life is yourself and as long as you don't give up, you never fail,” Maddox said.
