The City of Tulsa broke ground on a large new animal shelter.

The new shelter is near 36th Street North and Pawnee Drive.

City councilors hope the larger facility will get more animals off the streets.

"We want this shelter to be one that doesn't euthanize like it does today, but we got to get spayed and neutering for our animals. That is the most important to stop the continuous animals that are on the street," said city councilor Jeannie Cue.

The city also shared pictures of what the shelter will look like when it's finished in two years.
