What was once a season of promise is quickly turning into a disaster for the Dallas Cowboys.

It's only October, and the Cowboys currently sit at 3-3 heading into a bye week, but this certainly doesn't feel like a .500 football team. A 47-9 loss against Detroit in which there wasn't much that went right at all for Dallas. The Lions scored the second most points on the road in franchise history, while also sending Dallas to its worst loss at home since 1988.

Something is off with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb through the first six games of the season after both signed big contracts right before the season started. Questions now surround Mike McCarthy and his future, even though Jerry Jones quickly shut that down after the loss on Sunday.

“I haven't considered that, and I'm not considering that hypothetical,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “Just so we're clear, I'm not considering it. Do you think I'm an idiot? OK then, well, I'm not going to hypothetical with you about what I'd consider for a coaching change or timing. I'm not at all.”

There is also the question of how much blame falls on the owner and GM for his lack of roster building at specific positions during the offseason.

This seemed to cause some tension during the weekly appearance of Jerry Jones on 105.3 The Fan, the flagship station for the Cowboys in Dallas.

The Shan and RJ Show from 105.3 The Fan

“This is not your job. Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something, and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job. I'll get somebody else to ask these questions. I'm not kidding. You're not going to figure it out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting I'm going to today with 32 teams here, you're geniuses.

“You really think you're gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I've done wrong without going over the rights? Listen, we both know we're talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I'm very sorry for what happened out there on Sunday. I'm sick about what happened Sunday."

“ … One of the stupidest things I've ever done, that anybody had ever analyzed, was buy the Cowboys. It was an idiot that did that. So idiot things can turn into good decisions. Smart things can turn into bad decisions. The facts are when you make one, you don't really know if it's going to be good or not at the time. You want some conversation this morning; you're getting it.”
