Sisters Kendra and Krista Slaubaugh, known as the duo Tigirlily Gold, are taking the country music world by storm. The Academy of Country Music's 2024 Duo of the Year winners sat down with us to discuss their meteoric rise and new album "Blonde."*
"Winning an ACM award is probably the best thing that's ever happened to us, that and our Grand Ole Opry debut," said Kendra Slaubaugh, one half of the sibling duo.
From North Dakota to Nashville
The sisters, originally from North Dakota, started writing songs together at just 14 and 16 years old. Inspired by the success of Taylor Swift, they put their original music on YouTube and formed the band Tigirlily Gold.
"We started Tigirlily Gold and toured the full Midwest, and then moved down to Nashville," Krista Slaubaugh explained. "In 2017 we were playing four-hour cover gigs in the bars down on Broadway, paying our dues."
Chasing the Dream
After years of hard work, the duo's perseverance paid off when they signed a record deal in 2020. Now with a hit single "I Try to Ring On" on country radio, the sisters are living out their lifelong dreams.
"As long as we were able to write songs and release songs that we loved and also make a living off of music, that was the baseline. You're making it," said Kendra.
Blonde Ambition
Tigirlily Gold's new album "Blonde" showcases their signature sound - a blend of country, pop, and girl-group energy inspired by the likes of Dolly Parton.
"There's a song for everybody on the album," promised Krista. "We don't like to take life too seriously, if you can tell."
With an ACM Award, a Grand Ole Opry performance, and a breakout album under their belts, it's clear this dynamic duo is just getting started.
