The intensity of postseason football was on full display as Booker T. Washington edged out Collinsville 25-20 in a hard-fought Class 5A playoff game at S.E. Williams Stadium.
This Tulsa Tech Game of the Week highlighted two contrasting styles: Collinsville’s bruising ground attack, led by quarterback Skyler Moorman, against Booker T. Washington’s stout defense, which had allowed just 10 points per game during an eight-game winning streak.
“This team is built around our defense,” said BTW head coach Dan Bitson. “We had to make sure offensively, we didn’t mess it up.”
The Cardinals struck first, with Moorman connecting twice with Dylan Dugger for touchdowns in the first half. Collinsville held a 14-6 lead heading into halftime, thanks to a red-zone score late in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Booker T.’s Michael Washington ignited the offense with a touchdown run, giving the Hornets a 19-14 lead.
Collinsville countered in the fourth quarter, with Moorman finding Austin Boren over the middle for a go-ahead touchdown, making it 20-19 in favor of the Cardinals.
But Washington wasn’t done, powering in for his second touchdown of the night to give Booker T. a 25-20 lead.
With Collinsville threatening late in the game, Booker T.’s defense delivered. The Hornets’ defensive line, dominant all night, sacked Moorman in the red zone to secure the victory.
“It was only fitting that we had to lean on our defense,” Coach Bitson said.
Playoff game number one is in the books for Booker T. Washington, and their defense has proven they’re ready for the challenges ahead.
