The First Americans Museum will host a game of stickball on Saturday, and the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch traveled to the museum to learn more.

FAM Cultural Ambassador Ace Greenwood said stickball has its history in the tribes who resided in what is now the southeastern United States.

"It's an ancient game played by the southeastern tribes," Greenwood said. "It's kind of nicknamed 'the little brother of war,' because it was an alternative to war. Rather than going to war and just killing each other, this was designed so that we could go play the game, and when the game was over, the dispute was over. Both teams walked off the field."

Greenwood said as time went on, the game became more of a sport instead of a method to resolve disputes, including the inclusion of rules to protect players.

Now, the museum will host a game on Saturday that will be free to attend for those interested in the sport, as well as for those who would like to learn more.

Running from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with children's games beginning at 11:30 and the adult game at 1 p.m.
