A former Cleveland County deputy sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife, who was also a deputy, is now seeking to withdraw his guilty plea.

Vaughn Cannon, who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in December to avoid the death penalty, is asking a judge to formally reverse that plea, according to recent court filings.

Cannon was convicted of fatally shooting his wife, Jordan Pyle, in August 2023.

This latest move marks the second time Cannon has sought to alter his plea.

He initially pleaded not guilty earlier last year before changing his plea to guilty.

The reason behind Cannon’s request remains unclear. He is scheduled to appear in court again on January 14.
