Master Police Officer Jenny Bryan passed away one week ago after a tough battle with breast cancer, the Norman Police Department told News 9 on Monday.

Officer Bryan was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 34 years old, but it wasn't until 2020 that her cancer came back with a vengeance.

Only two weeks before her death, Officer Bryan cheered for her son from the sidelines of his basketball game, "which is incredible because she should have been in bed for months. It gave her something to do and she just wanted to be there for the kids no matter what," her brother Jeff Moody shared.

Officer Bryan was a single mother to four teenagers, which the police department said was not easy. She added that she put just as much energy toward her career in law enforcement as she did caring for her children.

“Her kindness, courage, and compassion was felt by everyone that knew her. That made her a cornerstone for our community-- not just the department, but the community," said Norman Police Chief Kevin Foster. "Everyone knew her. Everyone loved her. She was just an outstanding person."

Officer Bryan served in the Norman Police Department for more than eight years, winning Officer of the Year in 2020 and the Police Medal of Valor in 2022.

"For her to become a police officer is kind of crazy, but since we didn't have guns growing up, she wasn't a good shot when she first started her work,” Moody began.

Officer Bryan exemplified tenacity in all she did. “She refused to not be good at something," said Moody.

Eventually, Officer Bryan began leading firearm training at the police academy, where she worked toward the end of her career.

Her impact stretched far and wide, her family said. “She would be very upset that we're making a big deal about it,” her brother laughed.

Her loved ones said they hope to honor her legacy.

“That's what she would want-- her impact to have made a difference and it has. It will never be forgotten. Her legacy will never die here,” said Chief Foster.

Memorial services for Officer Bryan will be held Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. at Victory Family Church, 4343 N. Flood Avenue.

Her family asked anyone attending the service to wear blue, pink, or white in honor of Officer Bryan’s “courageous fight and service to the community.”

Memorial services for Master Police Officer Jenny Bryan will be streamed here.
