While road crews continue to plow and treat major streets and highways, many side streets in neighborhoods are still covered with snow and ice.
Before you head out the door this morning, make sure to do the following to stay safe:
- Brush away snow; remove any snow or ice obscuring the driver's view of the roadway, as well as any large drifts of snow on your vehicle.
- Watch out for slick spots; whether walking to your vehicle or driving down the road, be aware of any potential slick spots to avoid slipping or wrecking.
- Drive slowly; even if the road looks safe, never take a chance that could result in a wreck.
- Watch out for others; be aware of one another on the road. Take note of other vehicles or pedestrians near the roadway and give yourself room to slow down and stop.
- Pack your vehicle with essentials; in the event of an emergency, make sure you have what you need to stay warm and dry, as well as to call for help.
