Car Involved In Overnight Metro Pursuit Stolen From Deaf Couple

An overnight pursuit in the metro ended when the driver crashed into a fence at Tinker Air Force Base.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers took two people into custody and learned the car was stolen from a family in Moore. The owners reported their car stolen to Moore police on Sunday. The couple is deaf and couldn't hear anyone tampering with the car, making it easy for the thieves to get away.

The car looked familiar to people who saw Miranda Pollard's Facebook post on Sunday. News 9's Jennifer Pierce spoke to the couple through a sign language interpreter.

“I woke up this morning and many people were commenting and tagging me on social media and saying, ‘Your car was on the news,’” said Miranda Pollard, the car's owner.

The post asked citizens to be on the lookout for the car after it was stolen from the family's driveway in Moore. “I was getting ready to go shopping with my children, so I go outside,” said Pollard. “The car was not there.”

Robby LaCourt thought his fiancé was kidding. “Miranda came into the house and said, ‘Where did you park your car, where is your car?’” he said. “I was just shocked, shocked that it was gone.”

Even more shocking when the couple learned their car was involved in a pursuit with law enforcement. “They suspect it was two underage drivers that stole the vehicle,” said Pollard. “It looked very damaged.”

Pollard said the car was likely totaled. A car they needed for their growing family. “We just put our new baby car seat in that car and that’s not going to be able to be used,” said Pollard. 

The couple believes insurance will cover the cost of replacing the stolen car. On top of it all, the couple is getting married next week.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the pursuit and crash. The agency has not released any information about the suspects arrested.
