Restaurants have been seen closing across the Oklahoma City metro, and in an ever-changing consumer industry, it can sometimes be hard to remain open.
However, a young entrepreneur from Eastside is trying to change all that by helping young dreamers open shops in locations that have seen a hard time.
Sugar Mama's Donut Co.
At 26 years old, Amie Umoh opened a potato donut shop along Northeast 23rd Street in Oklahoma City.
By combining mashed potato mix, flour, and water to create light and fluffy delights, her idea comes from wanting to create a healthier alternative to sugary pastries.
Umoh said she grew up icing donuts and later became a master donut maker under the guidance of Younts Waters, owner of Polar Donuts.
Advice to Young Entrepreneurs
Thanks to Younts, Umoh said she has been helping young entrepreneurs with opening their own shops by sharing the advice she learned from him.
While there are several ways to run your business, Umoh shared some tips she says can help anyone:
1.) Never take no for an answer. If one person says "no," another will say yes.
2.) You don't have to always tell your plans. Sometimes, it's okay to keep your goals under wraps until you hit a certain spot. But, don't be afraid to ask for help,
3.) Establish a mentor. Find someone in your field who is at your desired goal and see what they're doing right.
4.) Make a financial plan. Always plan out a budget and profit goal. Make sure you can afford what you spend.
