To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the deadCenter Film Festival is getting ready to host its annual Glitterball event this weekend.
Ahead of the event, the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch met with organizers to learn more about how the event helps deadCenter work with Oklahoma students.
The theme this year, "Quarter Quell," is based on the "Hunger Games" series of books and films.
"We chose the theme 'Quarter Quell' because this is the 25th anniversary of deadCenter," executive director Cacky Poarch said. "Proceeds will go to offset the deadCenter film and education initiatives. We have the most robust film education outreach of anyone in the state."
Poarch said during deadCenter University, the organization reaches out to young students across the state to introduce them to the world of filmmaking.
"These young people also premiere the film at the deadCenter Film Festival, which is this summer," Poarch said. "So we look forward to a great event to raise lots of money to keep these programs free."
The event is scheduled for Friday, but organizer Juliana Marin says tickets are going fast.
"Last year we sold out, so it's time to get your tickets now," Marin said. "They're on deadcenterfilm.org and they are $125, and you get so much for that price. We're gonna have live music and drag queens, a raffle, a live auction, free food, and drinks. It'll be something for everyone."
The event is located at the Oklahoma History Center and will begin at 8 p.m.
