News 9's Lisa Monahan joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tuesday morning for a ride-along as the agency's troopers patrol state roadways.
While on the road with OHP Trooper Terry Hinkel, the trooper was called to the scene of a crash along Highway 74 south of Crescent in Logan County.
On the way, Lisa asked about the agency's activities during winter weather events, especially regarding how hazardous road conditions impact response time.
Even with the proper tires on Trooper Hinkel's patrol vehicle, Hinkel said he has to limit his speed to maintain control on the road.
"I'd go to accelerate, my rear end would start to fishtail a little bit, and then I have to limit my speed in order to get there safely," Hinkel said. "Because I'm not going to do anybody any good if I can't get there myself to provide the information and the care that they need. So it's hindering us as well."
One person at the scene of the crash was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
OHP said speed was a factor in the crash, which caused the driver to lose control while traveling over a bridge.
