News 9 is joined by Dr. Lacy Anderson to discuss dermal rolling, a procedure that uses a device with tiny needles to improve skin appearance, treat acne scars, and reduce signs of aging.
Dermal rolling, also known as microneedling, creates micro-punctures in the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Results are typically visible within a few months.
The device should be gently rolled across clean skin in vertical, horizontal, or diagonal directions, avoiding excessive rolling in one area. The procedure should be performed once a week for two minutes, increasing to two to three times a week if the skin responds well.
Skin may appear sunburned after dermal rolling, so it is best to perform the procedure at night.
Users should avoid microneedling on infected or acne-affected areas to prevent the spread of infection.
