Logan County officials say more than 30,000 acres have burned, along with 110 homes since wildfires broke out on Friday.

A firefighter, Jason Smith, is among the victims who've lost everything, and his friends are rallying around him as he continues the fight.

“He had turned a page. He had bought a piece of property, he had bought a trailer, put it on there, and all of a sudden, it's gone,” one of Jason’s friends, Justin Harper, said.

Friday wasn’t just any day for firefighter Smith, it was his first day.

“His first day as a firefighter, and he lost everything, and he continues to go out and fight,” Harper said.

Harper could only watch from afar from states away as the unthinkable unfolded for the Oklahoma native.

“Jason's gone through a lot of, like just had a lot of bad luck in his life,” Harper said.

Even though he lost everything he owned, Harper says Smith jumped right back into action.

“And then Jason in true form he’s out fighting fires again and he’s just gone on and on and on. He’s just been fighting fires ever since,” Harper said.

Moved by his friends actions, he decided to start a fundraiser despite Smith's humble attitude.

“Basically, his reaction was, ‘Man, that helps. It’s nice I appreciate it, but I’m nobody special. I'm no hero. I'm just a guy willing to put some water on the fire,’” Harper said.

But Harper feels differently and hopes to provide a little support for someone he says is a hero.

“It's just like, that's what a hero is," Harper said. "Is somebody that's willing to go put water on a fire when somebody else needs that help.”
